Discovery Place Science
An aquarium is eye-catching, beautiful and amazing to viewers, but behind the scenes is an ongoing battle between the elements and the construction materials. So we were happy to help Discovery Place Science and their aquarium contractor, Waterdog Products, with aquarium updates and expansions.
Fish and marine life are fun to look at, but a display that’s corroded or damaged due to moisture, salt water and humidity detracts from the experience. Discovery Place needed a durable material that can handle being hosed down and splashed with saltwater day after day.
Bedford provided a turnkey solution including onsite project planning, design, engineering, fabrication, and kitted shipments. Bedford PROForms® Structural Shapes and PROGrid® Molded Grating provided the ideal solution for this environment, offering strength and corrosion resistance even when fully submerged or wet in a marine environment. All of the components were completely custom-made to fit the space and kit-shipped to the site for quick, easy assembly by Waterdog.
And the improvements have paid great dividends for Discovery Place Science. Visitation has picked up, and the professional look of Bedford FRP enhances the museum’s many behind-the-scenes tours.
