Bedford Hosts Students for What’s So Cool About Manufacturing® Contest

Bedford Reinforced Plastics takes immense pride in our deep community roots, and we take every opportunity to connect with and empower our neighbors. And when that opportunity also involves highlighting the importance of manufacturing to the next generation, it’s especially meaningful.

Since 2013, the annual What’s So Cool About Manufacturing® video contest has engaged students across Pennsylvania to produce digital profiles of manufacturing companies in their communities. Each team of students is led by a teacher coach, and they receive the equipment, software and professional guidance needed to script, record and edit their stories.

The contest gives students valuable real-world experience while opening their eyes to manufacturing careers and the important role of the manufacturing industry in America.

As part of this year’s competition, students from Tussey Mountain Middle School in Saxton, PA, created a video profile of Bedford Reinforced Plastics. They toured the facility, where they were able to observe the production of fiberglass-reinforced polymer products, which serve as essential structural components for a variety of sectors, including construction, water treatment and chemical processing.

Bedford also had the honor of utilizing its 3D printing lab to design and produce the regional trophy for the contest. Experiences like these help strengthen the connection between education and industry while showcasing the skill and pride that define our communities.
